Computer Essentials

Searching for a file on your computer can be a frustrating and time-consuming process. Much like the standing file cabinets, it does not make sense to insert files without an organizational plan. Creating organization on your computer will make you more efficient and eliminate wasting time finding files.

File management is one of the most important things you can do on a computer. Some of the ways that you can organize your files is by images, projects, or type. Use your desktop and keep an icon folder there so you have easy access to the information that you need.

After you have decided how to organize yourself, you need to know how to save things on your computer. The first time you save, you might utilize the file menu and click on the option that says, Save. Keep in mind that when you name something, it is a good idea to omit the spaces that you might be tempted to put in and merge your words together instead. This way, if you ever post it on the Internet, you will avoid problems that can occur when trying to open the file. You can also press the Ctrl key and the S key at the same time.

To open a file, you can hold down the Ctrl key and the O key and that will bring up the open dialogue and show you the files you can choose from. Locate the file and click on it twice and it will open. You can also go to the File menu and then click "Open".

To edit a file, you need to be familiar with the copy, paste, and cut functions. Before you can copy or paste, you have to select it first by highlighting. Be aware that you will most likely keep the same format as you copy and paste, and that can cause problems as you move information from one program to another.

You can copy words, images, or text. When you copy something, it places it on an invisible file called Clipboard. It stores what you have selected in the memory of the computer, and can recall it when you need it. You can copy by clicking Ctrl and C, or by right clicking on the highlighted portion you will see a Copy option on a drop down menu. To paste, place your cursor where you want to move the copied portion, and click on Ctrl and V. You can also right click on wherever you want to place the copied portion and the Paste option will appear. Another way to do it is to click on the Edit menu and select Paste there.

To cut something out of your document, or to move something from one spot to another, highlight the item to be moved, and click on Ctrl and X. This will completely remove the item from the document, and then you can place your cursor where you would like it to be and click on Ctrl and V and it will paste it in. You can also right click on the highlighted portion and click on the Cut option.

Testimonial

Just wanted to share a bit of what we have learned since getting online and joining the network with our coach. Julie and I saw the opportunity to "Get a Page" as an extension of our existing education business, that would supplement our income in a rather passive way by offering products we have already developed and spent the past five years training in. Man, were we wrong! You have opened up our eyes to what it really means to be an online businessman/woman and just how hard online businesses work to get noticed in the worlds biggest marketplace, and that has changed our life!

I think if we had tried to launch our site alone and bumbled around in the dark for a while we would have lost energy very early on and wasted a lot of time not being able to draw attention or respect for what we are doing. What you have shown us is a "straight line" of techniques for SEO optimization and getting marketing on our side within the infinite Internet!

Thanks for your help so far and for helping us to restructure and redefine our on line business plan based around reality rather than false ambition and without expensive web design alterations.

Gareth and Julie M.

Pay-Per-Click Profit

Pay-per-click profit is the average profit you make for each click, or visit, a visitor makes to your site. This is important because when you know your average profit per click to your site, you may then know what your marketing budget will be for each marketing strategy-especially for bid-ranked search engines.

For example, say that you get 100 unique visitors to your site in any given day. Out of those 100 visitors, three people buy and spend $200. Say that your profit is $100 from those orders. Therefore, you make a $1 profit per unique visitor to your site, so your pay-per-click profit is $1.

If you find that you make, on average, $1 per click, then you know that you can pay for a keyword phrase at less than $1 and still make a profit. However we suggest not paying more than 5-10 cents per-click at first.

In order to calculate your average pay-per-click profit, you must have a detailed statistical reporting package in place that allows you to track visits to your website. The most important feature of this reporting is the referring URL feature. This feature will tell you where a visitor to your website came from. This is important because once you begin spending money on traffic, you will want to know where your money is most effective, so you can maximize its impact on you business. Another important feature would be in knowing the number of unique visitors (UVs) you get to your site.
