Thirst for Knowledge
Stimulate Your Mind, Enhance Your Potential
We live in the information age. Never before has there been so much information so readily available.
With all the information that is available, at times it is common to take it for granted. The Internet holds a limitless fountain of information, right at your fingertips. There seem to be an infinite number of books available on any given subject. There are countless seminars covering every topic available.
However, this wealth of information may stagnate the drive to obtain knowledge. Because the information is all about us, many stop looking for it. We cease to push our limits of understanding. In this information age, it is still important that we strive to increase our knowledge and to apply the knowledge that we gain to enhance our lives.
Our brains are much like the muscles in our bodies. Without constant use and, at times, even strong resistance your muscles would quickly atrophy and become worthless. Without organization and planning, the information we encounter is often lost and forgotten; it may even cause confusion.
It is the thirst for knowledge that allows us to formulate the information and convert it into the knowledge that can propel us forward to greater heights. It is the implementation of the knowledge that gives us the power to act. It is the implementation that makes education an invaluable commodity.
However, learning must take place on a consistent, regular basis in order to create the desired effects on our lives. The continual thirst for knowledge improves the quality of life for all of us. The following are just a few of the benefits that applied knowledge can bring to each of us:
Perpetual Education Propels Perpetual Improvement
Often, people fall into the trap of thinking that because they have always done a task or process in a certain way, that it is the best way to do it. However, very rarely, when a process or task is developed, is all the information available. In fact, processes are tested through trial and error. As the process is developed, information may be collected and organized, which will allow for the improvement of the very process being carried out. All too often, we focus so intently on the results of the task that we ignore the lessons that will lead to the improvement of the task.
Education Creates Ideas
When immersed in a book or while listening to a speaker, ideas occur to those who are seeking knowledge, which often have little or nothing to do with the subject being presented. When your brain is being stimulated, it begins to formulate responses to questions you may have at the back of your mind. It also begins to formulate new questions and generate ideas for improvements that you can make in your life. The stimulation also allows you to be creative; that is why brainstorming sessions are so invaluable.
Knowledge Improves Efficiency
Most likely you have heard the expression, work smarter, not harder. The education you receive will allow you to accomplish more in less time. You will find better ways to do things and are able to eliminate wasted time. Many people find themselves with little or no time to improve their lives. The fact of the matter is that the very essence of applied knowledge allows you to find more free time. In the beginning you may have to start by dedicating small allotments of time to learning, but as you implement your knowledge, you will find more and more time to invest in your education.
Learning to Learn Improves Information Classification
The more knowledge you acquire, the more information that you will be able to process and apply to your life. Often, because there is so much information available, people are overloaded and, therefore, are unable to register and utilize it to the best possible level.
There are many more benefits of perpetual learning that we have not covered in this segment. Never stop learning; you cannot maintain the level you are at. You will either progress or digress. As you strive to improve your knowledge you will flex your intellectual muscles and begin to find success.
