New Year's Revolutions
Seven Tips for Entrepreneurial Success in 2007
As the holiday season fades to memory and with it the year that was, it is common for people to take an introspective look at their lives and identify areas they wish to improve. The time for setting New Year's resolutions is upon us. This tradition of setting resolutions is timeless. Unfortunately, so is the tendency in many of us to allow these goals to go unaccomplished, due to poor planning and an inability to follow through with commitments. These same issues plague many businesses as they struggle to grow and succeed.
As an entrepreneur, goals are essential to create the future that you envision for your enterprise. In order to improve your ability to carry out a new business strategy or to further develop your current business, consider these seven tips that will help your business to flourish in the New Year.
Commit and Re-commit
There are two prevalent themes common to top entrepreneurs: they are strategy and commitment. When you set a goal commit yourself to complete it. Committing yourself to a goal greatly increases your chances of success. Many goals you set for your business are financial in nature and require commitment to execute. If you wish to reach a new level of success, perhaps you may consider revving up your entrepreneurial intensity. Then, if at any time, you feel that your intensity is wearing off, re-commit yourself to your business and your goals.
Define Your USP
As an entrepreneur, you seek to fill the needs of your customers. In order to succeed, you must set your business apart from your competitors with a Unique Selling Perspective (USP). In order to define your USP, ask yourself the following questions: What is my mission? What makes my business different, special, and better than my competition? Once you identify your USP, write it down. Your USP will be dynamic in nature, as the business world is constantly evolving. Use your USP to drive your business forward.
Create a Business Plan
Your business plan is a virtual roadmap on your journey to success. Your business plan will define your business, including a vision for the future, and plans to execute the vision. Beginning with the end in mind will help you to identify the goals that you must make in order to arrive at the end.
Network
Your business will rely on the relationships that you are able to build and maintain. Attend networking events and conventions in your area. As you begin to build relationships, remember that many of the people that you meet will become customers, partners, or sources of referrals for your company. Make sure people remember you in a positive light. Making a good impression is key to maintaining contact with them. Networking activities are a key element to your business' success.
Learn Your Industry
Industry knowledge is essential to success. Passion alone will not be sufficient to identify the trends of the industry surrounding your business. A strong understanding of the needs of customers and your competition cannot be overlooked. Becoming an expert on your industry will set you apart.
Form a Power Team
Creating a power team allows you to harness the power of synergy and incorporate it into your business. A power team is a group of individuals who form an alliance for the benefit of all those involved. Each member of the power team focuses on his or her own area of expertise.
Find a Mentor
Another common factor for successful entrepreneurs are mentors. Mentors guide and inspire throughout the process of creating and building businesses. An experienced mentor will teach you how to successfully carry out your entrepreneurship. You will benefit from the experiences and motivation of the mentor and avoid many of the pitfalls that face new business owners.
This year holds limitless potential for you if you are willing to work towards improving your current business or the creation of a new business. Take advantage of the New Year. Set goals that will help you to find the success that you have only dreamed of. These seven tips will provide a foundation that will enable your business to succeed.
